Our vintage ratings are deliberately presented on a scale with only five different categories, ranging from poor/uneven through to outstanding. This may seem inexact when other sources will confidently provide a rating of, say, 88 points out of 100. The reason for this is that we see assigning vintage ratings to regions producing Pinot Noir as an imprecise art. This approach reflects that there are variations between subregions and individual terroirs, as well as the infinite variations in how different vignerons respond to the conditions that each season brings.
